Ron Draper is the long time CEO of Somerville Municipal Federal Credit Union and has played key roles and been critically influential in the credit union movement for over four decades. In addition to his extensive credit union work history — from the ground up including an 18-year stint as a Chairman and Director of the Central Credit Union Fund, the nation’s very first corporate credit union (a credit union for credit unions) created by the Massachusetts legislature in 1932, and first led by credit union legend, Edward Filene, and 12-years as Chairman and Director of the first credit union league formed in the US, the Credit Union League of Massachusetts (now known as the Cooperative Credit Union Association), Ron has also turned-around less performing credit unions and has developed innovative products and services for credit unions of all sizes.

Ron is a graduate of Boston College with a degree in business administration-marketing. He received his master’s in business administration (MBA) from Southern New Hampshire University and his Juris Doctor degree from Massachusetts School of Law. In addition, Ron is a licensed attorney and certified court mediator, real estate broker, and auctioneer practitioner.

After more than forty years as part of the credit union industry, from serving as an entry-level project manager and loan officer in 1982 at Raytheon Employees Credit Union, to senior executive positions at larger credit unions, Ron is now pondering his own forthcoming retirement. But not before resuming his interests in writing, drawing, the creative arts, and stand-up comedy.
